ERS Statement: COVID-19 and the ERS International Congress 2020

The current situation with COVID-19 is of serious concern for all of us who are part of the European Respiratory Society (ERS).

In the short term, we are all working together to ensure that ERS can contribute and lead in the information and knowledge sharing around the virus and its spread, and the treatment of patients who have COVID-19.

ERS as an organisation is continuously assessing the risks associated with its activities based on the guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission and the regulations put in place by the relevant local authorities, to ensure that these risks are minimised for all of you, our respiratory patients, sponsors, people affected by the virus and the general public.

Regarding the upcoming ERS International Congress, taking place on 5–9 September 2020 in Vienna, Austria, ERS intends to go ahead with the congress as planned. In the unlikely event that the congress is affected, ERS will promptly announce the decision and notify those who are affected by changes to the event.

ERS will keep you regularly updated and release a further statement in April.
